TechReuse

TechReuse is CompuCorps' most visible program because it interacts directly with the community and has been featured in the news many times. TechReuse helps bridge the digital divide through affordable technology.

The program is the basis for many activities undertaken by CompuCorps. The program itself consists of receiving donations of high tech equipment, refurbishing this equipment and redistributing it within the community to those who need it most.

The entire process relies heavily on donations and volunteers.

TechReuse is a service of CompuCorps.org providing computer hardware, training and technical support to charities, non-profits and people with limited access to technology.

  • Refurbish your equipment as much as possible
  • Recycle what cannot be fixed
  • Redistributed them to charitable organizations in your community
  • Issue a tax receipt for the market value of the donated equipment.

Refurbishing helps the community as well as the environment; the typical lifespan of a desktop computer is roughly two to five years, burning them creates carcinogens and burying them contaminates the ground and water. TechReuse diverts used computers from landfills. The major benefit or refurbished computers is the price point and the quality level - approximately one third of what a new PC would cost.
