Please help us to contact companies for the "Laptop Pledges for TechFeather". This is a great opportunity to engage your company in laptop reuse and Green IT solutions and to help the TechFeather program which relies on donated laptops to provide access to technology for aboriginal youth across Canada.
Both Microsoft and the Ontario Electronic Stewardship (OES) are supporting the campaign goal of 3000 donated laptops through pledges over the next 2 years. Please consider donating your updated, surplus or planned refreshes of laptops.
CompuCorps.org is focusing on this TechFeather program because without access to the laptops, Â the modern toolbox, Â Aboriginal youth will suffer lower levels of high school advancement and an ever increasing lack of equal opportunities, through skill based digital divide barriers in Canadian society.Â
An environmentally friendly and socially responsible solution to your unwanted laptops
According to a Redemtech analysis, an increase in computer reuse of just 1 percent in North America, from 39 percent to 40 percent, would create savings equivalent to the electricity required to power 72,600 households for a year and greenhouse gases produced by 51,300 passenger cars in a year.
Reuse makes sense for the environment
The production of every PC requires 240kg of fossil fuels, 22kg of chemicals and 1,500 kg of water. That's over 1.7 tons of materials consumed to produce each and every PC.Â
We solve your data security worries
CompuCorps is providing a free (DOD Mil Spec) hard drive wiping service, including certificates with serial numbers, for all donated laptops. CompuCorps has provided hard drive wiping service to the Ottawa Police Service for three years.
Tax receipts for laptop donations can really add up
Companies donating 100 laptops over 2 years may see a $25,000 tax receipt and even those donating about 10 laptops per year could provide approximately $5,000 in charitable tax receipts which are equivalent to a charitable cash donation.
Laptop Drop Off on Saturdays from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM at 1040 Somerset St. W. Ottawa. Volunteer to contact companies for laptop donations. For more information visit: www.compucorps.org/laptop, email:
