Compu Corps.org and Odawa Native Friendship Centre reach out for Aboriginal Youth through public computer sales

July 13th, 2008 – Ottawa, ON – Compu Corps.org in partnership with Odawa Native Friendship Centre are pleased to announce the launch of the TechFeather project on August 8th and 9th, 2008. This event is being held at Compu Corps.org Community Tech Centre located at 1040 Somerset Street West (corner of Breezehill) from 10am – 1pm. TechFeather is a project by the local high-tech charity called Compu Corps.org to provide access to computers and technical support for Aboriginal youth in Ottawa, eastern and northern Ontario.

For the occasion of the launch of TechFeather and in celebration of International Youth Day – August 12th – Compu Corps.org will distribute computers at low cost in order to raise funds for future programs involving the Aboriginal Youth and technology. This project will be funded through the sale of complete refurbished computers systems with installed Microsoft Windows XP Professional and Microsoft Office 2003 Professional. Please come to Compu Corps.org to pre-order a computer during their office hours Monday to Friday from 10am - 4pm and Saturday 9am to 1pm. The order form can be found at www.compucorps.org. The launch will be attended by Aboriginal people and their supporters from the Ottawa region. An opening ceremony will be conducted by an elder. Entertainment, food and refreshments will be provided.

TechFeather is a project in partnership with Odawa Native Friendship Centre and other Aboriginal groups working together in support of equal opportunity for Aboriginal youth in our society.

Compu Corps.org cordially invites citizens and corporations to be part of this event and help Aboriginal youth. There are man ways you can help this charity to make a difference by volunteering, donating laptops, purchasing a refurbished computer or sponsoring a youth to purchase a computer. Note that by either donating your laptop or purchasing a refurbished computer you are also helping the environment – reusing and refurbishing diverts e-waste from being dumped in landfills or outsourced to third world countries. Corporations’ support is much needed, with every $995 donation, five computers can be distributed for free to five underprivileged Aboriginal youth. Compu Corps.org is in need of volunteers to help with this event, such as cooks, marketing and organizers.
